  Raising Your Hiring Standards With Job Benchmarking 4-Step Process

Ensure the best job fit in four easy guided steps that make up the patented Job Benchmarking Process. Each step is contingent on the one prior, and the entire benchmarking process can be duplicated across all positions within the company.

Start by re-evaluating the organizational needs from a job-centric perspective with participating “Subject Matter Experts” (SMEs) within the organization who know the job best and obtaining input. The process includes answering fundamental questions about the purpose of your talent search, including:

  • Why does this position exist?
  • How do we measure success for this position?
  • What role has this position historically played in the company?
  • What role should it play in the future?
  • How does this position fit in with our overall company strategy?

The ability to understand the responses sets you up to accurately assess and measure the core competencies you will be looking for in candidates.

Through discussion, the SMEs will each define a comprehensive yet succinct group of 3-5 key accountabilities for the position. The discuss should answer:

  • What does this role need to deliver?
  • Why?
  • The current job description is a good starting point
  • Draft key accountability statements

Next, gain agreement on key accountability statements by:

  • Weighing each statement based on the amount of time required to deliver
  • Prioritize each by rating the level of importance to the role’s success

The SMEs will respond to the Job Assessment keeping the Key Accountabilities in mind. These are the requirements for top performance in the position. It will allow you to understand the specific company needs your new hire should be equipped to meet.

Once collected, a comprehensive and unique analysis is carried out. A composite report is generated to create a complete profile of the job requirements. Each SME receives a copy and the results are discussed in a facilitated meeting to validate the results.  Once validated a complete profile of the job requirements for an ideal candidate for the job is generated.

Now you can assess each candidate and analyze personal performance vs the GAP Report results driven by the Job Benchmark. You can compare multiple candidates on the same scale as the job to understand the characteristics an individual will bring to the job.
